And if you’ve been missing . . . vampires in your life, this book is for you.
A Maiden…
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty…
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom…
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.

Dangerous. Ruthless. Savage. And she's the good guy.

Favorite Quote: " If there's one thing I've learned in my life, it's that shitty things happen. You can't always stop them. They just happen. And yeah, you can let them destroy you, but what's the point? Might as well learn to deal with all those shitty things and move on."

Review:
I really liked this book. It took me a bit to get through, not because it wasn't good but because I'm still in a bit of a book slump.
The story was great. I liked the interaction between Abby and Kane. I loved seeing them slowly open up to each other and grow.
Kane was amazing, strong and protective but knew when to back of or when to stand up for himself and call Abby on her bullshit. I really liked that.

What is this book about:
Abby is an assassin, a good one as well. She was trained by her adoptive dad to never be vulnerable again, to be strong. Abby finds herself in quite a tricky situation. But she has good reasons to be there. You see Abby went undercover to take a human trafficker but she got made and is being tortured for information. When she gets rescued by Kane and his men, they didn't expect the woman to be pissed over it.
Abby prefers to work alone. She doesn't trust anybody and has a hard time opening up to anybody. She never felt attracted to anyone but she can't help but feel something for Kane and that freaks her out.
After a bit of negotiating Abby and her crew decide to work with Kane and his men to complete the mission Abby send out to do, to save a group of girls from being sold as sex slaves.

What did I like/love:
Like I said above I really like the story. I liked how it all turned out. I loved Kane as well. I really liked how he didn't kept pushing and knew when to walk away. He is a great guy.
I liked Abby as well. I relate to her not being able to trust and open up to people. I admire her strength and resilience as well.

This book didn't have as many hot sex scenes as some of her other books do but it still had a few hot scenes.

Overall I enjoyed this book and will definitely read the other books in this series.

Review "Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros"

How do you define yourself when others have already decided who you are?

Six years ago, when Camden Daniels came back from war without his younger brother, no one in the small town of Alba, Colorado, would forgive him—especially his father. He left, swearing never to return.

But a desperate message from his father brings it all back. The betrayal. The pain. And the need to go home again. But home is where the one person he still loves is waiting. Willow. The one woman he can never have. Because there are secrets buried in Alba that are best left in the dark.

If only he could tell his heart to stay locked away when she whispers she’s always loved him, and always will…

Great and Precious Things is a heart-wrenching story about family, betrayal, and ultimately how far we're willing to go on behalf of those who need us most.

Favorite Quote: “People need to place blame when things go to shit. Makes them feel like they have control over things they don’t.”

Review:
I loved this book. My heart went out to Camden, he dealt with so much during his life and people kept adding more sh*t to it. This book is really about that how people see you isn't necessary how you are and that once people have a certain positive or negative image of you it can be hard to get away from that. It's about not letting what people think of you get in the way of your goals.

What is this book about:
Camden is military, and he loves it. He didn't think he would get out if he didn't receive a call for help from his father. Going back home definitely isn't something he wants to do. Everyone hates him there, and his father maybe the most. He gets blamed and blames himself for the death of his younger brother.
The only positive in that town is Willow. Willow is a graphic designer and loves the town she lives in but at the same time doesn't like certain aspects of it either. It's a small old fashioned town and they stick to their own visions and thoughts. It makes it hard to move away from how they see her and show them that she has moved on.
Willow can't believe that Camden is back in town and that he is staying this time. She knows she shouldn't help him but she can't help but want to help the man she grew up with. It's up to Willow to decide how far she is willing to go to help the person that needs her the most.

What did I like/love:
I love Camden. Like I said above I really wanted to jump in and stick up for him and help him. He had nobody in his corner and it broke my heart that he didn't expect it either. People where really mean to him.
I loved the connection Camden and Willow had. It played out nice in the story.
Willow I really liked as well. It takes guts to stand up to everyone for what you believe is the right thing to do. I admire that in her.

I loved how the story developed. The writing style and the flow of the story are great.
