Embrace the Forbidden
What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?
This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.
Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?
Review
it has been a while since I've read a young adult book that I didn't start and loved a while ago or really liked/loved. But this one I really liked! I like the concept of Fallen Angels/Nephilem. It has a kind of different take on nephilim than I'm used to but I liked it. I have to say I can tell it's a young adult but since the focus isn't on the romance part but more on the supernatural part, it doesn't bother me. It is typical in a young adult supernatural story that the heroine is the focus of everything and that she has to save the world or some people and that is the case in this book as well.
What is this story about.
This book focuses on Anna. Anna is a very sweet innocent, naive, very good girl. She can't stand to lie and feels terrible after even the tiniest lie. She knows something is off about her. Her senses are extremely heightened. She can hear across a room, see in the dark etc. Not only that but she can see things. She can read people's moods/aura's. One day she meets Kaiden, he's a very sexy drummer in a band. Anna is very intrigued by him . As it turns out Kaiden and Anna are the same. Well sort of. Anna learns that she is a nephilim. An offspring of a human and a fallen angel (duke of hell/demon). But the thing is Anna's mother wasn't human, she was an angel. So that makes anna very unique.........
What did I like about this book
I'm a big fan of books about angels, nephilim etc. So that alone will make me like something. But the deal breaker with those kind of stories is the writing style of the author and the characters in the book. I really liked the writing style of this author. She really knows how to tell a story.
I liked the chemistry between Kaiden and Anna. Since I got used to sex and more of a partner feel in stories, I kind of missed it but I understand that it isn't going to happen in young adult book. These types of stories are obviously less about sex and tend to focus on the main female. They tend to build an entire story around that person. There is nothing wrong with that don't get me wrong.
I liked the side characters in this book. They where contributing to the story without taking the attention away from it. They were funny and I liked them.
There are some things happening in this book that would definitely not be acceptable if it was a normal ya romance but since it was a supernatural book, it didn't bother me.
One thing that was questionable for me at one point was the emotional stability of patty (anna's foster mom). That women sure cries allot and isn't really that big of a parental authority figure. I liked her but wasn't that crazy about her.
