Review "The Blackest Gold series by R. Scarlett"

"Darkness isn't all one shade, sweetheart."

Three centuries ago, Molly Darling’s ancestors signed a contract in blood—daemon blood—to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent’s wishes, sick of their warnings about her “betrothal to a demon.”

Except that she’s very much betrothed, and he’s very much a demon—one who’s only agreed to the nuptials to steal Molly’s ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later.

As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family’s safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she’ll ever have calls for Tensley’s demise.

Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there’s no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

Review:
I expected more from this book. The synopsis was interesting. So was the beginning. I really hoped for more.
The characters where all over the place. The back and forth wasn't enjoyable anymore at some point. I wanted to see some grow.
Some points where glossed over that shouldn't have been to make sense of the story. And other things where repeated to much.
For example, Molly was always timid, and naive and not much of a fighter. And suddenly the author said she learned to fight and she was good at it. But we never saw her practice. It came across as unbelievable.

For a first novel, R. Scarlett didn't do a bad job. It was interesting enough to make me want to read the rest of the books to see where the story is going.

3 1/2 I liked it Stars

Never trust a demon.
Never trust your heart.
And never trust the woman who holds it.
In Body of the Crime, a beast craved a beauty and oh, how she ravaged him.

Review:
Sadly this book didn't impress me much more. I hoped that it would get better, that the story would get better but it was more of the same.
More of the same back and forth between the characters, more of the same hot and cold behavior. It was very wishy washy.

I think the timeline was still a bit odd at times. The author made some jumps while that would have been better if she didn't. Stuff that would have been better of being shown than being told.

Molly mentioned things that happened without really explaining properly what happened, and we didn't get to see what happened either. So that left me a bit confused at times.
Like in the first book she could suddenly fight, but was also a force to be reckoned with. She seemed to have full control of her powers. Like how did that happen.
What happened between Molly and Tensley. Why aren't they talking in the beginning of the book. I actually checked to make sure I was reading book 2 and not missed a book or something.

I'm glad that Molly wasn't so naive any more. That she grew some lady balls. I just wish I was able to connect more with her.

The story has potential but it needs work.

Never disobey the court.
Never disobey the crown.
And never tame that vicious heart.
In A Vow of Thorns, sacred laws are broken when a beauty holds an iron heart.

Again it's more of the same. The same conversations, back to back even just with a view different words. I often found myself thinking that there was an editing mistake and that the same sentence was copied twice, but that wasn't the case.
I really think that if this book, this story got a proper editor then it has potential to be great.

Molly and Tensly are stilling going back an forth allot. Tensly is hot and cold, her wants her tand then he doesn't. And Molly gets mad but she caves and forgives him and then it happens all over again.
Molly talked allot about being bad ass, and repeated that she was bad ass allot but she didn't do much to back it up.

If it wasn't for that cliffhanger, I would have given up.

She tasted his sweetness, his power, and his love, and it destroyed him.
That iron heart has turned to ashes, leaving only a heartless beast.
One she vows to tame.
One she vows to save.
Before he rips her own heart out.

Review:
I feel like, like in this book, my review start to sound the same for every book. More of the same.
I hoped, after the cliffhanger from book 3, that this book would be different, more interesting. And for a while it looked that way. But the interaction between Molly and Tensly is still the same.
Molly is still allot of talk, she got better, she showed more skill but it's a bit to late for me.
Tensley, while in the beginning I understood, is still all over the place. He wants her, pushes her away then is mad at her being gone and leaving him, vows to get her back and not let her leave again, and then it happens all over again.
Tensley was being really stupid in the last two books, I though he was suppose to be a smart business kind of person but he agrees left and right without really thinking it through. Lots of things could have been avoided if he thought for a second.

I also thought it was out of character for Tensley to be so hell bent on keeping the crown. He never seemed interested in it. I thought it had something to do with his lack of a heart but after he got it back he still wanted it, until he didn't.

The underlying story was interesting enough to keep me going but the series needs lots of work in order to make it amazing in my opinion. The flow of the story needs work, the world building needs work, the characters need a bit of work, the writing needs work.
It felt like the author didn't really know her characters and didn't really know where she wanted to go.
